Common Sense Eludes The Talibangelicals Yet Again

The American Family Association is shoveling a bunch of horseshit to their members and encouraging them to “take action” against Congressman Elect Keith Ellison for the simple act of daring to prefer to take his oath of office using the Koran instead of the Bible.  For a Muslim to take the oath of office by placing his hand on the Koran makes a hell of a lot more sense than him swearing on a Bible to uphold the Constitution.  It makes no sense at all, as far as I’m concerned, to bring religion into the swearing in process at all, but if we insist on continuing this outdated practice, we sure as hell better include all Holy Books as well as the option for none at all.

It’s not so much a question of fairness or an attempt to promote multiculturalism, which might as well be a four-letter word as far as the Christo-fascist brigade is concerned, but it is a matter of common sense.  If the purpose of using a Holy Book in the swearing in process is to use a member’s religious faith to further bind them to their promise to uphold the constitution and fulfill the duties of their office, then I sure as hell don’t want a Muslim placing his hand on the Bible while he’s sworn in.  If anything, that undermines his oath.

The whack-nut Right really must get over their obsession with America as a Christian nation.  It never has been and it never will be, and to advocate for it is quite literally un-American.

Well, quite seriously, I do not think anyone should be sworn in on ANY religious tome; they should use a copy of the US Constitution. I wonder how other countries handle this; are they all "under God"? Small wonder the world is so fucked up.

What about the rest of us? I don't find the Koran, the Bible or any other ancient religous text to be particularly covincing...I would much rather a politician swear to me that they will uphold the constitution. Or is it just much easier to renig on your oath when you are swearing to a fictious sky god rather than an actual human being?

I'm with you anonymous, if I were miraculously elected to office, I think I'd choose Grimm's Fairy Tales myself. Makes just as much sense as using the Bible.

People, I'm a Canadian and I know that no member of Congress is sworn in using a Bible or any other holy book. The law actually forbids it. The whole thing is a tempest in a teapot and arose because someone asked the first elected Muslim Congressional representative which holy book he'd use. He mistakenly answered.

Some members of Congress have a photo-op after their swearing in where they place a hand on the Bible, but this is strictly a media event and not the actually swearing in.

And while I'm at it reminding Americans that their's is a Secular country and not some bizarre Protestant theocracy, I should mention the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust" on money were both added in the 1950s in another act of phoney patriotism to prove Republicans weren't Godless Communists.

"In God We Trust" replaced the egalitarian "E Pluribus Unum", which means "Out of Many We are One." Of course, that kind of phrase has a vaguely pinko ring to it. Doesn't it?

If you think swearing in on a "Holy Book" is frightening -- Washington D.C. has gone too far!

Look for the photos of the new monument because it's truly the "horns of the beast."

After having a cold chill run through the blood, take a momentary breath now that the Bush Crime Family is genuinely a tragedy play of the past.

But, unfortunately, the very near future is a tragedy getting ready to be played out in the economic cosmic enema reality of brokeback USA.

Pay attention to the new scare which is the "terrorists" shutting down our "financial grids" (Wall Street and Banking). Should they over here get away with yet another staged 9/11, so to speak, the bank accounts shall be frozen until we beg for the "Amero."

Read very carefully ~ "The Destruction of the Mexican Peso: 1910-2006"

Study, study, study the SPP and NAU because the Middle East was only one agenda and the BIGGEST agenda for the Bilderbergs as well as the Trilateral Commission and Council on Foreign Relations - was and is, the NAU and a new currency to hide how bankrupted the secret governments have caused the U.S. to be. Canada and Mexico aren't cooperating so the American people are going to weather this depression alone, with the global community experience a "world recession."

Demand every member of Congress stipulate they do NOT support the NAU, SPP and Amero! Demand sovereign banks be set-up and shut down the Federal Reserve System who is the culprit for inflating the dollar so this scenario could be implemented.

Hurry, 2010 was the date for the North American Union to be finalized and it was supposed to be a "slow burn," but because of King George and his penchant for Dictatorship (only one thing we can thank him for and that's his illusion of being sent by God and protected by all the royal lineage in his blue blood, thus his arrogance fully exposed the secret governments' hidden agendas), so now 2007 is warp speed into enforcing the 2010 agenda.
